Connecting through art

As part of the Intercultural Weeks, the Brücke Museum, in collaboration with Neue Nachbarschaft Moabit e.V., invites you to a day of creative exchange. Together, we’ll discover all the things we can share through linocut printing, light and shadow. No prior experience or artistic knowledge is required for these free workshops: we look forward to your ideas and a lively dialogue across all generations and languages. Off the press, lights on!

Linocut printing with artists Yelena Pozdnyakova and Alena Aharelysheva: Feel free to experiment with your marks and patterns here. Which piece of the puzzle will you add? What’s missing? In our Forest Room, you’ll learn the basics of linocut printing and print motifs from shared printing plates. This will create a variety of shapes, colours, symbols and images that you can use to freely experiment and tell your stories. Together, we will print on postcards and produce a collaborative print.

Shadow theatre with Mariia Yasinover:
What stories can movements tell? And which shapes and images speak louder than words? A drop-in workshop for children to create, tell stories and experiment playfully with light and shadow. Together, we’ll create a stage for your shadow puppets. On the day, you’ll also be supported by our team comprising: Marina Naprushkina, Ximena Gutiérrez Toro, Khanom Ayoub and our young facilitators.

About the projects:
The event is part of the artistic and participatory programme FREI RAUM KUNST goes NEUE NACHBARSCHAFT, which is for, by and with young people with and without migration backgrounds. Together, we organise mobile, free and participatory workshops on printmaking, textile design, woodwork and mural art. These take place in shared accommodation, in the neighbourhood, at local festivals and at the Brücke Museum.

Neue Nachbarschaft/Moabit e.V. is a neighbourhood initiative which, for over ten years, has been developing and implementing an interdisciplinary cultural, artistic and social programme for and with people of all ages, with and without a migration background. The aim is to create new opportunities for non-hierarchical political and social interaction.

The Brücke Museum’s day of action brings home the importance of accessibility and cultural participation. All workshops are free of charge on this day. Free admission to the museum continues to apply to children and young people under the age of 18, as well as to school pupils, students and apprentices (aged 18–27), and recipients of social security benefits (e.g. benefits under the Asylum Seekers’ Benefits Act).
