With Thesea Rigou Efstathopoulos (artist and art educator) and Nadja Raszewski (Dance Educator at TanzTangenten, dance school in Steglitz)
This workshop invites participants to explore the museum’s current exhibitions through movement and physical engagement. Individual and group exercises provide opportunities to respond with one’s own body to the works from the Brücke-Museum collection and to those created by contemporary artists. Moving from inside the museum out into its grounds, the workshop spans the exhibition Nature… In the Museum and the ecological nature trail Art… Beneath Pine Trees. For this session, the museum is opening outside its regular visiting hours to give the participants a more peaceful and intimate experience of the exhibitions. The workshop is open to people of all abilities; no previous experience is required. Please wear comfortable, movement-friendly clothing and shoes. Parts of the workshop take place on the outdoor nature trail, which is an unpaved path and is not barrier-free. The meeting point is the ticket counter in the museum foyer.
Although the workshop will be mainly in German, we mention the languages spoken by the facilitators to make it more accessible. If you don’t feel confident in German, don’t worry — you can still take part.
Somatic Exercises in the Exhibitions is a format developed by Alvin Collantes and Thesea Rigou.
Nadja Raszewski (b. 1963 in West Berlin) has worked as a choreographer and dance educator for over 35 years. Her practice combines a wide range of dance techniques with somatic methods, foregrounding improvisation and collective movement while looking beyond the distinctions between professional and amateur. Raszewski has created numerous productions with people whose bodies and life paths are highly diverse; she directs the TanzTangente as well as the certificate course “Creating Dance in Art and Education” at the UdK Berlin (Berlin University of the Arts).
Thesea Rigou Efstathopoulos (b. 1997 in Cyprus) has been a freelance art mediator at the Brücke-Museum Berlin for over three years. Their artistic practice spans printmaking, ceramics, drawing, installation and participatory activities, often as part of the artist duo Helena & The Sea. Focusing on material cycles and socio-ecological kinship, Thesea approaches art mediation as an embodied, relational process that involves working with the body as much as with words.
