We often see nature as something to be observed, something separate from ourselves. As we admire its grandeur, we may also feel distant or detached from it. In this workshop, we turn our attention to the small landscapes right in front of our eyes – to mosses, plants, structures and details that are often overlooked. By affectionately observing the surroundings of the Waldraum (Forest Room), we gain a greater sense of what connects us to them. From this experience, a collective woodcut emerges: an image in which we recognise ourselves as part of the landscape – as a human forest, interwoven with other bodies and life forms. Together, we will develop a vision of interconnectedness that challenges individualism.
No prior knowledge is necessary. Please bring suitable work clothes. Although the workshop will be mainly in German, we mention the languages spoken by the facilitators to make it more accessible. If you don’t feel confident in German, don’t worry — you can still take part.
Yili Rojas was born in Bogotá (Colombia) and has been working as an artist and educational instructor in political education in Berlin since 2010. Her focus in political education is on (post-)colonialism, anti-discrimination, anti-racism, and the empowerment of migrants and BIPoCs. As an artist, she works with drawing, printmaking, performance, installation, and poetic texts.
