In Dialogue - Staged Nature
A critical walk through the garden suburb of Zehlendorf

With Anna Yeboah (architect and curator) and Philipp Krüppe (architectural historian); moderated by Karen Michelsen Castañón (artist, art educator)

The Brücke-Museum’s current exhibitions explore the relationship between humans and nature, drawing attention to a cultural landscape that is anything but accidental. The museum is located in one of Berlin’s oldest garden suburbs. Since the mid-19th century, this type of residential development has shaped the concept of ‘nature’ and served to establish bourgeois exclusivity. On our walk through Zehlendorf, we will consider how this constructed nature came into being, whose nature it was, and what forms of exclusion it continues to produce today.

Anna Yeboah (she/her) is an architect and curator. In her exhibitions, lectures and interdisciplinary projects, she deals with power systems in built space, memory culture and the decolonisation of architectural and cultural praxis. From 2020 to 2024, she coordinated the pilot project Dekoloniale Erinnerungskultur in der Stadt - Decolonial Culture of Remembrance in the City for the Initiative of Black People in Germany e.V., which deals with the critical processing, mediation and remembrance of colonialism originating in Berlin. As part of the Nicht Einfach (Not Easy) specialists team, Anna Yeboah conceived the content of this event together with the artist.

Philipp Krüpe (he/him) is a research assistant at the Institute for the Fundamentals of Modern Architecture (IGmA) at the University of Stuttgart. He publishes work on topics related to architecture and media theory for publications such as ARCH+, Baumeister, the Goethe-Institut, and various cultural institutions in Germany. Together with Stephan Trüby, he is responsible for the research project “Rechte Räume” (www.rechteraeume.net). His current research focuses on the political media and affective history of modern architectural theory and production.

We are committed to respectful interaction. Discriminatory behavior has no place at our events.
