Contemporary Displays and Applied Arts of the Brücke Movement
Talk in English

With the designers and artists Andrea Faraguna (tbc), Kasia Kudakowski, Santiago da Silva, Jerszy Seymour with the curator Lisa Marei Schmidt, moderation: Valentina Bay (assistant curator, Brücke Museum)

Art and applied arts – the Brücke artists themselves worked at the intersection of art and design. It was therefore fitting that curator Lisa Marei Schmidt invited both artists and designers to be involved the exhibition design. The exhibition approaches the craftsmanship of the Brücke using three materials: wood, metal and textiles. Individual rooms are dedicated to each material, with each room visually distinct from the others. The minimalist display cases designed by architect Andrea Faragunas for the metal objects are followed by an evocative room installation by designer Jerszy Seymour for the works made of wood. Textile works, meanwhile, are presented freely in the space within an expansive screen structure created by artist Kasia Fudawoski and graphic designer Santiago da Silva.

In this talk, all those involved will discuss their initial ideas through to their implementation.

The museum is open until 8 p.m.

Valentina Bay is an art historian and assistant curator at the Brücke-Museum in Berlin.

Lisa Marei Schmidt is a curator and since 2017 has been director of the Brücke-Museum in Berlin.
