Guided tour, Talk
In Dialogue - Textile
11.00am
With Lisa Reichmann (artist, embroidery workshop at Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design Halle) and Anika Reineke (curator of the textile and applied arts collection, Kunstsammlungen Chemnitz)
Applied arts require practical knowledge: The curators have not only explored the theoretical aspects of the craft pieces in our collection but have also gained hands-on expertise in production processes and material properties. In doing so, they learned alongside practitioners and created initial samples themselves in each respective craft. This tour highlights both perspectives: that of artisans themselves and that of the museum. During the discussion, the experts will explore the distinctive qualities of each material (metal, wood, or textile), as well as the possibilities and limitations of working with them. This is especially fascinating when it comes to the artistic creations of the Brücke artists.
Each event in this series sees a curator talk to someone practising the craft: featuring wood sculptor and restorer Valentin José Kammel, textile artist Lisa Reichmann, and jewellery designer Elisabeth Schotte.
The embroidery workshop Rebellious Stitches will take place afterwards. Registration is required for the workshop.
Lisa Reichmann is an art graduate who practises hand embroidery as her preferred medium. She works in the embroidery workshop at Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design Halle.
Anika Reineke is curator of the textile and applied arts collection at the Kunstsammlungen Chemnitz.
