Public Printmaking Workshop: The Woodcut
For Teens and Adults
12.00 – 4.00pm
With Yili Rojas (artist).
The conscious choice to use wood because it’s a natural material was a minor revolution at the start of the 20th century. What earlier generations of artists had cut to size, polished, or painted over was what most appealed to the Brücke artists: the grain, the cracks, the fissures, the unevenness, even an irregular natural shape. All the randomness of nature was now incorporated into the design. It became their artistic programme.
Together with visual artist Yili Rojas, you can try out the woodblock technique for yourself and develop your own ideas and messages. Yili Rojas was born in Bogotá (Colombia) and has been working as an artist and educational consultant in political education in Berlin since 2010. Her focus in political education is on (post-)colonialism, anti-discrimination, anti-racism, and the empowerment of migrants and BIPoCs. As an artist, she works with drawing, printmaking, performance, installation, and poetic texts.
