Artist Talk
4.00 – 6.00pm
With Sophie von Hellermann (artist) in conversation with Ruth Ur (co-curator)
3 pm guided tour with Ruth Ur
Co-curator Ruth Ur invited painter Sophie von Hellermann to create a wall work for the current exhibition. The site-specific work unifies the life stories and personalities of the eight collectors presented and honoured in the exhibition. Artist Sophie von Hellermann and curator Ruth Ur present the contemporary wall painting in conversation and contextualise it in the exhibition Biographies of Modern Art: Collectors and Their Artworks.
Sophie von Hellermann’s paintings recall memories of fables and legends, taking up historical and mythological motifs. The diverse colours and broad, curving brushstrokes imbue the works with a sense of weightlessness. Sophie von Hellermann (b. 1975 in Munich) lives and works in Karlsruhe and London. Since 2022, she has been a professor of painting at the Staatliche Akademie der Bildenden Künste in Karlsruhe.
