Walking is more than just movement; it is a cultural practice and a way of experiencing the world. In this reading, Lea Maria Spahn presents her publication Walking as Embodied Worldmaking – Bodies, Borders, Knowledgescapes and explores how walking connects bodies, knowledge and specific places. These connections are never neutral, as walking is also shaped by political issues such as borders and territories. Spahn’s book brings together texts and images by researchers and artists, offering diverse perspectives on the subject of walking.

Lea Spahn is a researcher, performer and dance educator. She teaches embodied movement and dance, as well as cultural education, at Philipps University of Marburg and the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts. As co-initiator of the German-Czech Agronauts*Collective, she conducts performative research into non-human worlds. Spahn’s work combines contemporary dance, soma studies, physicality and ageing, aesthetic and cultural education, and political ecologies. Spahn has been co-curator of the participatory dance festival ROTATIONS since 2026 and co-editor of the Soma Studies series published by transcript Verlag since 2014.
