Workshop, Waldraum
Seeing the forest in a new way
Two Day Painting and bookbinding workshop (GER/EN/GR)
12.00 – 4.00pm
With Helena & The Sea (Artistic-Duo / Helena Ommert & Thesea Rigou)
The wintry Grunewald Forest is our inspiration for this two-day workshop. During a walk through the surroundings, we will sketch the impressions we encounter: what moods can we capture? Back in the heated Waldraum (forest room) at the Brücke-Museum, we transform these impressions into pictorial studies and bind them into a small, abstract forest book that reflects our sensations. Basic painting and bookbinding techniques will be taught throughout the process. Visiting the exhibition also provides an insight into Karl Schmidt-Rottluff’s working methods.
Although the workshop will be mainly in German, we mention the languages spoken by the facilitators to make it more accessible. If you don’t feel confident in German, don’t worry—you can still take part. We are committed to respectful interaction. Discriminatory behavior has no place at our events.
Helena & The Sea is a German-Cypriot artist duo from Berlin (Helena Ommert & Thesea Rigou). Both studied at the Berlin-Weißensee Academy of Art and work at the intersection of participatory art, performance and sculpture. Their practice is collaborative and process-oriented: art is understood as a space for exchange in which stories, materials and experiences are shared. In addition to performative and sculptural approaches, printmaking, painting, drawing, ceramics and video repeatedly play a role in their work.
Due to the limited number of participants, please register here. Participation in public events is included with the museum admission. Meeting point: ticket counter in the foyer.
