Art moves us. It can trigger joy and wonder, but also irritation. However, feelings are not only private; they also have a social and political dimension. Emotions were instrumentalised under National Socialism: fear, rejection and pride were used to judge art and people. In this workshop, we explore the paintings of Karl Schmidt-Rottluff while paying attention to our own feelings and thoughts. Spontaneous words that arise will be recorded and shared with the group. From this, new connections emerge that will inspire us to paint. Colours, shapes, and moods guide us further. Through this process, we ask ourselves how art, feelings and power relations are connected and what that means for us today.

Although the workshop will be mainly in German and English, we mention the languages spoken by the facilitators to make it more accessible. If you don’t feel confident in German, don’t worry—you can still take part.
