Ich mag immer Publikum bleiben
Book Presentation

With Julia Schäfer (teacher and curator) in conversation with Daniela Bystron (curator for outreach, Brücke-Museum)

Ich mag immer Publikum bleiben. Vermittlung als kuratorische Praxis (I Like to Remain in the Audience: Education as Curatorial Practice) is the title of curator Julia Schäfer’s latest book. In this comprehensive and wide-ranging book, she describes her understanding of curating: leaving something open, experiencing, dissolving, irritating, communicating, participating, liberating, experimenting, trusting, meeting, processing, documenting, understanding, connecting, remembering, integrating, confusing, performing, unlearning, going out and discovering. Ich mag immer Publikum bleiben is an invitation to reflect on Schäfer’s more than 20 years of curatorial practice, to delve into Leipzig’s exhibition history and, above all, to see exhibition-making in a new way. We invite you to join a conversation about the book, Julia Schäfer’s understanding of museums, exhibition-making, audiences and art education. Daniela Bystron, curator for Outreach and Museum Programmes at Brücke-Museum, will moderate the event.

Julia Schäfer is a secondary school teacher who lives and works in Leipzig. Since 1999, she has worked as a curator on national and international projects, including a long period at the GfZK Leipzig.
