Open Printing Workshop: Woodcut (GER/EN/ES/PT)
For Youths and Adults
12.00 – 4.00pm
With Yili Rojas (artist)
Printmaking held a special significance for the Brücke artists. It enabled them to stay in contact with their circle of supporters and to consolidate themselves as a group. For example, they designed signets, envelopes, annual cards, membership cards, posters, and much more. In this open workshop, we experiment with the woodcut as a collective experience. Today, we live in a society that is characterised by individuality. What would it be like to think, feel and have fun together through printing? Is it possible to put aside individual authorship and create an image together? At the beginning of the workshop, we rely on a collective process to choose a theme from the museum’s surroundings. As a group, we create a large-scale work in two colours that expresses our shared reflection and creativity. Although the workshop will be mainly in German, we mention the languages spoken by the facilitators to make it more accessible. If you don’t feel confident in German, don’t worry — you can still take part.
Yili Rojas was born in Bogotá (Colombia) and has been working as an artist and educational instructor in political education in Berlin since 2010. Her focus in political education is on (post-)colonialism, anti-discrimination, anti-racism, and the empowerment of migrants and BIPoCs. As an artist, she works with drawing, printmaking, performance, installation, and poetic texts.
