Open Printing Workshop: The Woodcut
For Youths and Adults
12.00 – 4.00pm
With Yili Rojas (artist)
The choice of wood as a natural material was already a minor revolution at the beginning of the twentieth century. It was precisely what earlier generations of artists had cut to size, polished, or painted over that appealed to the Brücke artists: the grain, the cracks, the fissures, the unevenness, even the irregularly grown shape. All the randomness of nature was now incorporated into the design. It became the artistic programme.
Together with the visual artist Yili Rojas, you can try out the woodblock technique for yourself and develop your own ideas and messages. Yili Rojas was born in Bogotá (Colombia) and has been working as an artist and educational consultant in political education in Berlin since 2010. Her focus in political education is on (post-)colonialism, anti-discrimination, anti-racism, and the empowerment of migrants and BIPoCs. As an artist, she works with drawing, printmaking, performance, installation, and poetic texts.
Due to the limited number of participants, please register here in advance. Public events are included in the admission fee. Meeting point: Ticket desk in the foyer.
