DESCRIPTION:Two experts exchange their views on the central themes of the e
xhibition Swedish Modernism and connect them to current questions about ar
t\, research and society. With Pary El-Qalqili (director and writer) and K
aren Michelsen Castañón (art mediator and artist)\n\nCare work has never b
een shared equally. For Swedish modernist artists\, gender roles and the s
ocial expectations associated with them were significant. Examining this p
eriod enables us to consider various forms of parenthood and the current u
nequal distribution of unpaid care work. To what extent do the artists’ wo
 rks reflect structural inequalities\, mental burdens\, exclusion\, and a l
ack of recognition within the art world?\n\nPary El-Qalqili is a Berlin-ba
sed artist who works across film\, performance\, and teaching. Her work ex
plores the themes of forced displacement\, exile\, and structures of viole
nce and resistance. Taking colonial imagery\, regimes of looking that cate
gorise people rigidly\, and hegemonic politics of representation as her st
arting points\, she examines processes of dehumanisation and erasure. In h
er filmmaking\, she seeks storytelling forms that allow for gaps\, rupture
s\, and disruptions.\n\nKaren Michelsen Castañón (born in Lima\, Perú) is
a visual artist\, filmmaker\, and freelance researcher. Her work deals wit
h the way (colonial) stories are told and includes short films\, photograp
hs\, and textiles. She questions how both hegemonic and invisible stories
are restaged in our everyday lives and how this relates to current social
events.\n\nWe are committed to respectful interaction. Discriminatory beha
vior has no place at our events.
