DESCRIPTION:Two experts exchange their views on the central themes of the e
xhibition Swedish Modernism and connect them to current questions about ar
t\, research and society. With Ximena Ferrer Pizarro (artist) and Tanja-Bi
anca Schmidt (art educator and art historian)\n\nTwo experts will exchange
their views on the central themes of the exhibition Swedish Modernism and
connect them to current questions about art\, research\, and society. Wha
t stories do these paintings tell\, and from whose perspectives? This guid
ed tour invites visitors to question conventional ways of looking at paint
ing. Together\, we will explore the subjects\, visual worlds\, and paintin
g styles of Swedish modernism. We will also examine the social expectation
s and power dynamics reflected in the paintings and consider how we can lo
ok at them differently today.\n\nXimena Ferrer Pizarro (born in Lima\, Pe
rú) paints stories in which her characters fight for the visibility histor
ically denied to them and their ancestors. With vulnerable yet sharp-witte
 d directness\, she challenges class structures\, colonial power relations\
, and the marks they leave on bodies. Her work is edgy\, offbeat\, and fun
ny.\n\nTanja-Bianca Schmidt studied art history in a global context. Her a
reas of focus are critiques of power\, Black identity\, and postcolonial t
heory. As a freelance political educator\, she advises various museums in
Germany on diversification and decolonisation strategies. Schmidt regularl
y organises workshops on discrimination-sensitive approaches in art histor
 y. She is currently completing her PhD in the DFG-funded research project
“Image Protests on Social Media” at the TU Dresden (Dresden University of
Technology).\n\nWe are committed to respectful interaction. Discriminatory
behavior has no place at our events.
