DESCRIPTION:With Lisa Marei Schmidt (Director\, Brücke-Museum) and Aya Soik
a (Professor of Art History\, Bard College Berlin)\n\nAround 1900\, reform
movements like that of the Lebensreform influenced contemporary thinking.
In response to industrialisation and rigid bourgeois norms\, they called
for a recentring of nature\, craftsmanship\, and a simpler way of life. Th
e Brücke artists adopted the concept of the Gesamtkunstwerk – art that fee
ds into other aspects of life\, from furniture and clothing to close engag
ement with nature. They designed their studios and living spaces with hand
made furniture\, textiles and wall paintings\, creating expressive interio
rs that intentionally stood apart from conventional middle-class homes. \n
\nIn this tour\, the two curators Lisa Marei Schmidt and Aya Soika will ou
tline the idea behind the exhibition together.\n\nWe are committed to resp
ectful interaction. Discriminatory behavior has no place at our events.
