DESCRIPTION:Actor and performing artist Jules* Elting (no pronouns /Jules*)
explores the theme of the ‘chosen family’ with a performance developed es
pecially for the Brücke-Museum. The word ‘chosen’ is taken literally in th
is interactive performance: the participants are invited to make personal
decisions in dialogue with Elting\, which individually shape the course an
d content of each performance. Because every relationship is different.\n
\nQuestions such as: What is relevant to our connection? How do we recogn
ise each other? What do I need to feel safe? And what distinguishes a volu
ntary relationship for me from one that I have not chosen myself\, such as
a biological family?\nIn many aspects of her life\, the collector Hanna B
ekker vom Rath did not live a socially and politically normative life\; sh
e was emancipated\, independent and cultivated her friendships extensively
. The concepts of romantic love\, bourgeois nuclear family and friendly re
lationships are currently the subject of much debate. Three performances i
n the Summer Festival programme invite visitors to explore ideas of relati
onships\, interpersonal connections and the concept of the ‘chosen family’
in various formats such as performances\, workshops and readings.\n \n\nT
here is no registration for Jules* Elting's performance and participation
is spontaneous. If you are curious and want to become part of this complic
ity\, stay alert and open at the summer festival.\nTime: 1-5 pm\nNo fixed
times\, interactive\, ongoing performance in the entire museum area (insid
e and outside)\n\nJULES* ELTING (no pronouns/Jules*) studied contemporary
dance in NYC and acting at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater ‘Felix-Men
delssohn-Bartholdy’\, Leipzig. After a classical theatre career at German
municipal theatres\, from 2005 for 10 years ensemble member at the ‘Teatro
Oficina’ in São Paulo/Brazil\, one of the largest and best-known theatre
companies in the country.\nSince 2015\, he has been known above all for in
ternational cinema films such as ‘The Ornithologist’ by João Pedro Rodrigu
es. Selected as Berlinale TALENTS in 2019. The Dutch feature film ‘Melk’ c
elebrated its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival in summer 2023 an
d will be released in cinemas in 2024. \nJules* Elting has also recently s
tarred in several major German TV productions\, such as Tatort and Soko\,
and plays an ongoing role in the queer debut series ‘Brüt’\, which has jus
t premiered on ARD Mediathek. At the beginning of 2024\, Jules* was nomina
ted as a newcomer by the Brazilian Critics Award.\nElting regularly develo
ps his own site-specific performances\, most recently for museums in São P
aulo\, Brazil\, the Goethe Institute South America or a collective in the
Roter Salon of the Volksbühne Berlin.\nIn 2021 Jules* Elting was part of #
ActOut. Since then\, regular participation in panels\, talks and intersect
ional workshops on gender-sensitive casting processes and the situation of
trans people in the film industry. \nIn 2022\, Elting recorded the audio
tracks for the exhibition ‘Werner Düttmann: Berlin Bau Werk’ for the Brück
 e-Museum.
