DESCRIPTION:With Jennifer Chert (gallerist) and Tanja Wagner (gallerist)\,
moderated by Sonja Eismann (editor\, Missy Magazine)\n\nHanna Bekker vom R
ath was not only a painter\, collector\, and gallerist\, she also played a
n eminently important role as a networker\, promoter\, and patron. All thi
s at a time when women in such roles were hardly imagined in the art world
. In a relaxed conversation in a salon atmosphere\, the Berlin gallerists
Jennifer Chert and Tanja Wagner\, moderated by Sonja Eismann\, will discus
s the specific working conditions and challenges for women gallerists and
collectors then and now. How has the situation changed over the decades? H
ow present and influential are women in this field today? How visible and
canonized are female role models? Is there gender discrimination? Do women
collect\, network\, and curate according to different criteria than their
male colleagues? To what extent can (feminist) critique and the demands o
f the art market be reconciled?\n\nIn 2008\, Jennifer Chert (she/her) foun
ded a gallery\, which she and Florian Lüdde developed into ChertLüdde in 2
 016. In 2023\, Clarissa Tempestini\, the gallery’s long-standing director\
, joined as a partner. After thirteen years in Kreuzberg\, ChertLüdde is n
ow located in Schöneberg in a former costume and party decoration shop\, w
hich is home to a dynamic programme of international and Berlin-based cont
 emporary artists\, a project space\, an artist archive\, and a bookshop.\n
\nFounded in 2010 by Tanja Wagner (she/her)\, the gallery promotes art tha
t challenges norms and focuses on global perspectives. Through a collabora
tive approach to curating\, the gallery aims to promote an inclusive and g
ender-equitable art market and to engage with the public beyond the exhibi
tions. Tanja Wagner’s commitment to equality in art underscores the galler
y’s desire to create more inclusive and equitable conditions within the ar
t world.\n\n[ruele]\n\nThis event is part of the series FEMINIST PERSPECTI
VES\, an intersectional\, discursive accompanying programme curated by Son
ja Eismann (editor of Missy Magazine) and Josephine Papke (author and jour
 nalist).
