(DE)\n\nWith Dr. Camilla Smith (Un iversity of Birmingham) and Prof. Dr. Dr. Martin Langanke (Evangelische Ho chschule Rheinland-Westfalen-Lippe)\nHosts: Dr. Meike Hoffmann (Freie Univ ersität Berlin)\, Isabel Fischer (Brücke-Museum)\n\nThe workshop focuses d epictions of figures and nudes by the Brücke artists from a contemporary p erspective\, exploring the themes of identity\, origin\, sexuality\, and g ender. What underlying conceptions of human beings are present in these ar tworks\, and how do we approach them in today’s context? How can we envisi on a contemporary contextualization that moves beyond the historical discr iminatory aspects?\n\nDr. Camilla Smith is an Associate Professor/Senior L ecturer in Art History at the Department of Art History\, Curating\, and V isual Studies at the University of Birmingham\, where she currently serves as the Head of Department. Her areas of expertise include modern art from Germany and Austria\, as well as Swiss culture of the 18th century. Artic les on erotic print culture and drawings have been published in the Oxford Art Journal and Art History\, and an article on Magnus Hirschfeld and his engagement with visual culture and art history will appear in the June is sue of The Art Bulletin 2023. Her monograph on Jeanne Mammen\, which explo res the experience of producing art under the radar in Nazi Berlin\, has b een published by Bloomsbury.\n\nProf. Dr. Dr. Martin Langanke (1972) studi ed Philosophy\, Protestant Theology\, and Modern German Literature at the Universities of Augsburg and Erlangen-Nuremberg. He received his doctorate in Philosophy from the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg in 2002. After ye ars in the private sector\, he worked at the University of Greifswald from 2009 to 2019\, where he obtained his habilitation in 2017. Since 2019\, h e has been a professor of Applied Ethics at the Protestant University of A pplied Sciences Rhineland-Westphalia-Lippe in Bochum. His main research in terests lie in the areas of „Foundations of Ethics\,” „Bioethics\,” and „E thics and Art.”\n\nDr. Meike Hoffmann is a lecturer in the field of Expres sionism\, Nazi art politics\, and memorial culture at the Freie Universitä t Berlin. At the Department of Art History\, she is the head of the follow ing provenance research projects: Research Center „Entartete Kunst\,“ Moss e Art Research Initiative (MARI)\, Abraham Adelsberger Art Research Projec t (AAARP). Her recent publications include: Meike Hoffmann / Dieter Scholz (eds.): Unmastered Past? Modernism in Nazi Germany. Art\, Art Trade\, Cur atorial Practice\, Berlin 2020\; Meike Hoffmann and Aya Soika: Escape into Art? The Brücke Painters in the Nazi period\, Munich 2019.\n\nIsabel Fisc her has been the Project Manager for Digital Transformation at the Brücke- Museum since July 2022\, where she oversees various digital collection pro jects. Previously\, she worked as a freelance staff member and led several projects at the Brücke-Museum\, including the exhibition and publication project Max Kaus: Among Friends (2020)\, a pilot project for the critical examination and digitization of Karl Schmidt-Rottluff’s collection of work s from colonial contexts (2021)\, and the editorial work for the exhibitio n newspaper 1910: Brücke. Art and Life (2022). From 2018 to 2020\, she ser ved as a research intern at the Brücke-Museum.
