Woodcut with Yili Rojas (visual artist)

The very choice of wood as a grown material was a small revolution at the beginning of the 20th century. Exactly what earlier generations of artists had cut to size, polished smooth, or painted over appealed to the Brücke artists: grain, cracks, unevenness, even the irregularly grown form. All the randomness of nature was now incorporated into the design. It became an artistic program.

The Forest Room is a space for exchange, production, and reflection in the garden of the Brücke Museum. Designed as a glass pavilion by the architecture and art collective ConstructLab, it offers a special art and nature experience.

Together with the visual artist Yili Rojas you can try out the technique of woodblock printing yourself and develop your own image ideas and messages. Yili Rojas was born in Bogotá - Colombia and has been working as an artist and educational consultant in political education in Berlin since 2010. Her focus in political education work is (post-)colonialism, anti-discrimination and anti-racism and empowerment for migrants and BIPoCs. As an artist she works with drawing, printmaking, performance, installation and poetic texts.
