The documentary film by Pınar Öğrenci Gurbet artık bir ev (Gurbet is now a home) reflects on the urban planning concept of “cautious urban renewal” and addresses the discriminatory treatment of migrant workers. The film reveals an aspect of Kreuzberg’s planning history that has received little attention so far: that of migrant women and Gastarbeiter (guest workers). The film screening will be followed by a discussion about urban planning and migration with the artist Pınar Öğrenci, Daniele Karasz and Niloufar Tajeri.

Pınar Öğrenci lives in Berlin and is an artist and author with a background in architecture. She teaches on the spatial strategies course at weißensee kunsthochschule berlin. Her works mainly deal with the different causes of displacement, such as war, state violence, collective movements, urban transformation and industrial projects.

Daniele Karasz holds a PhD in social anthropology and works in the fields of housing, urban development and migration. He is an associated researcher at ENSAP de Paris La Villette and teaches at the University of Vienna and the TU Vienna.

Niloufar Tajeri is an architect, researcher and activist from Berlin. She is a research assistant at the Institut für Geschichte und Theorie der Architektur und Stadt, TU Braunschweig and a fellow of the Akademie Schloss Solitude. She is also co-editor of the publications Nights of the Dispossessed: Riots Unbound, Kleine Eingriffe. Neues Wohnen im Bestand der Nachkriegsmoderne and Kabul: Secure City, Public City.

The film screening will take place at Wassertorplatz. The event is free of charge. Due to the limited number of participants, we kindly ask you to register for this event. You can register online on the exhibition website wernerduettmann.de two weeks before the event.
