DESCRIPTION:Discussion and tour with Winfried Brenne (architect)\, moderate
d by Luise Rellensmann (architectural critic/scholar)\n\nAs the person res
ponsible for its general renovation ten years ago\, Winfried Brenne knows
the Akademie der Künste in the Hansaviertel like no one else. Planned by W
erner Düttmann in collaboration with Sabine Schumann from 1958 to 1960\, t
he three-part building ensemble comprises exhibition and event spaces as w
ell as an administrative building and is particularly distinctive due to t
he thoughtful use of material and colour. The renovation work sought to br
ing these elements back to their original form\, as they had been slightly
obscured in places by wear and tear and minor interventions over the year
 s. The upgrade to meet current technical and energetic standards also had
to be carried out without affecting its original appearance. During this t
our with Luise Rellensmann\, Winfried Brenne will talk about the challenge
s of renovating listed buildings.\n\nWinfried Brenne has been running his
practice Brenne Architekten in Berlin since 1990. He has made a name for h
imself primarily through his expert handling of historical structures. The
renovation of icons such as Walter Gropius’ Bauhaus in Dessau\, Hans Scha
roun’s Theater Wolfsburg and Bruno Taut’s Schillerpark housing estate in B
erlin are just a few of his numerous projects. In 2007\, Brenne was awarde
d the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany for his commitment
to the preservation of historical monuments.\n\nLuise Rellensmann is an a
uthor and academic associate in the department of historic preservation at
the BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg\, where she is currently working on the resea
rch project ‘Denkmalpflege ohne Denkmalpfleger*innen? Theorien des Weiterb
auens’.\n\nDue to the limited number of participants\, we kindly ask you t
o register for this event. You can register online here on this website tw
 o weeks before the event.
