Moeller 264 pages with 139 colour plates, 24 € This exhibition catalogue is applied to the different stays of Karl Schmidt-Rottluff at the Baltic Sea. He was a cofounder of the “Brücke”. The artist visited often different regions at the Baltic shores; the first stay was 1906 on the Baltic isle Alsen, the next one was in 1913 in Nidden at the Courland Spit. The following journeys in the nineteen thirties and nineteen forties led him to Jershöft and Lebasee in Eastern Pomerania. Finally Schmidt-Rottluff stayed since 1951 regularly more than 20 years in Sierksdorf at the Bay of Lübeck. The Baltic Sea always inspired the artist to a very intensive examination of the local nature and to the creation of luminous and colorful works. (Available only in German) |

Ernst Ludwig Kirchner in Berlin Catalogue edited by Magdalena M. Moeller. After moving from Dresden to Berlin in 1911 Kirchner was stunned by the exciting and vibrating life in the metropolis. He captured modern Berlin nightlife and developed a distinctive style of expression, culminating in the famous series of paintings known as the Street Scenes (1913–15). Fourteen scholarly essays focussing on special issues introduce into the artist´s Berlin work. Moeller, with an large essay by Günther Gercken, the author of the upcoming catalogue raisonnée of Ernst Ludwig Kirchners’ prints. 208 pages with 145 coloured illustrations, price 23 €. Only available in German. For the first time this exhibition catalogue is dedicated exclusively to Kirchner’s colour prints. Different variations of a certain motif are juxtaposed, permitting interesting views on the artists’ work. Kirchner himself stressed the quality of his colour prints: “Indeed the colour prints are works of art in their own right.”

This catalogue presents selected works of the rich collection of drawings of the Brücke-Museum created by Ernst Ludwig Kirchner. The technique of drawing played a central role in Kirchners work. This selection, dating from 1906 to 1937, one year later Kirchner committed suicide, provides a wide overview over the artist´s oeuvre. The scholarly essays allow a profound access to the artist´s work focussing on special issues. |
